The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Association® (ABBA) is the only registry authorized by the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA) to recognize a dog as an Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog™.  The ABBA was founded in 1979 to promote and encourage the breeding and preservation of the “Ol’ Plantation Bulldog of the South”, that it so duly named the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog and to protect the public from purchasing a dog falsely represented to be an Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog™.  Thus protecting the genetic future of the breed by insuring only dogs having a Certificate of Registration issued by the ABBA may be considered an authentic Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog™.

Unfortunately, there is an alarming increase in the number so-called Alapahas being produced without regards for temperament or health.  Due to the extreme popularity explosion that these dogs have experienced since entering the “rare breed” world, many “Opportunists” have set up Mini puppy mills in order to mass-produce enough puppies to meet market demand. This has led to several “Political” Wars created and fueled by those that were only interested in making money on this new “Exotic Breed” without any concern for the future welfare of the entire gene pool.  Since most of these people have little or no experience as long-term breeders or trainers, nor much understanding in regards to genetics and the harsh consequences of extreme inbreeding, much damage has been done!

Only puppies/dogs whelped by two ABBA certified dogs can be eligible for registration or if registered by a generic 3rd Party registry (See COE section 6, paragraph 4 & 5) the said dog must have true documented Alapaha heritage based on the original ABBA stud book circa 1979.

The ABBA polices its certified breeders through a Code of Ethics to ensure that no breeder knowingly breeds a dog or bitch that may produce a dangerous temperament or degenerate health defect.  Likewise, the ABBA polices the dogs within its registry to document and maintain consistency amongst its constituents.

Warning:
Anyone who purchases a dog that is called an Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog™ but is not eligible for ABBA registration should be aware that the dog is most likely a cross bred mutt and may carry genetic temperament and/or genetic health problems. Before purchasing an Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog, please be sure that the entire litter is ABBA registered and that you will receive official certified ABBA papers.

Beware of CREATE-A-BREED registries or dual registrations.
